INSPIRE: KOREAN AMERICAN EMERGING ARTIST COMPETITION
Korean American Community Services (KACS) is proud to announce the first annual Inspire: Korean American Emerging Artist Competition to recognize and honor a talented, up-and-coming artist of Korean American descent. The winning artist, chosen by a juried panel, will receive a cash prize of $3,000 (graciously endowed by Mr. Kew Sun Chai, a former Board Member of KACS), and will be invited to KACS’ 39th Anniversary Benefit Gala, Celebrating the Spirit of Service, on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook, IL.

AWARD
1. Cash Prize: $3,000 (the winning artist can elect — but is not required — to donate the winning art work to KACS for inclusion as a silent auction item at the gala).
2. Award Presentation at KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala.
3. A feature of the artist and artwork in KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala Program Book and the KACS website.
4. Two tickets to KACS’ Annual Benefit Gala, which includes drinks and food.

ELIGIBILITY
Participation is open to all U.S. residents of Korean descent (inclusive of bicultural or multicultural descent as long as Korean is one of them) who are 18 years of age or older.

We acknowledge that “emerging” and “up-and-coming” are fairly open and vague descriptors. If you believe these apply to you, then please submit. We are interested in including, rather than excluding, contestants.

GUIDELINES
• Only two-dimensional artwork will be accepted.
• This exhibition is open to photography.
• Artwork must have been completed within the last two years.
• Artists can submit up to two pieces.
• Due to space limitations, entries larger than 60″ high or wide (measurements include frame) will not be accepted.

FEE
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $20 payable to Korean American Community Services.  Payment can be made by check to KACS — please note in the memo that it is an entry fee for the art contest. Alternatively, you can pay online by going here: http://inspirekacs2011.eventbrite.com/.
